Record-breaking heatwave sweeps across Australia's south-east

Millions of people living in Australia's south-east are set to endure another day of sizzling temperatures due to a record-breaking heatwave.
Extreme heat is set to continue across South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania, with Hobart experiencing one of its hottest nights in decades.
Adelaide is set to swelter through a maximum temperature of 38 degrees today, while Melbourne can expect a high of 37 degrees.

"This is a very difficult decision, particularly in Moomba's 70th year, but we must prioritise people's health in these extreme conditions," Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp said in a statement.
"Parade participants are required to spend several hours outdoors in hot, heavy costumes - putting them at greater risk."
Pitch Music Festival in the state's west was also cancelled after organisers delayed the start due to the extreme heat.

Records have been broken across parts of the state, with Essendon recording its hottest March minimum temperatures in 53 years, with 26.1 degrees.
Locations across South Australia also experienced record-breaking heat, with Adelaide waking up to its hottest morning in five years.
The late-season heatwave is due to a blocking high in the Tasman Sea, fuelled by hot tropical air funnelled east by the jetstream, according to Weatherzone.
Relief will be on its way tomorrow with temperatures set to drop to 25 degrees in Melbourne, while Adelaide will hit a very warm 34 degrees.
