Australian sheepmeat exports to Brazil resume after four year pause

Australian sheepmeat exports to Brazil will resume after a four year pause, the federal government has announced.
Brazil suspended Australian sheepmeat products and edible offal exports in 2020 due to a change in the country's market requirements.
The restoration of trade access will now give Australian sheepmeat producers access to a country of 217 million people.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Murray Watt welcomed the news as a step forward in Australia's agricultural trade relations with Brazil.
"Brazil has a sizeable and growing market for meat products where Australian products are held in high regard for their excellence," Watt said.
"Restored market access for sheep products opens news opportunities for the Australian sheepmeat industry.
He said both nations were committed to strengthening bilateral ties and the latest announcement highlighted the benefits of their engagement.
"This positive outcome reflects the hard work and technical expertise of officials on both sides and shows that when we work together, both Australia and Brazil can benefit," Watt said.
"The Australian Government greatly values our bilateral agricultural trade relationship with Brazil, and we are committed to seeing its continued growth."
