'Nation reeling': How British papers are reporting double royal health shock

The Princess, 42, has now had "planned abdominal surgery" and will be in hospital for two weeks recovering.
The King, 75, is having an operation on an enlarged prostate - a common condition in older men - next week.

Updates on the royal hospitalisations were released less than two hours apart on Wednesday afternoon, overnight Wednesday Australian time.
It is unusual for such intimate details to be released on royals' health.
The Sun focused on Kate, saying: "Royals rocked by Kate op"
It said the royal family had been "rocked by a double health blow."
However it quoted a royal insider saying the Princesses condition is not related to cancer.
Apart from that, the papers have not offered any more insight into what could be wrong with Kate.

A doctor said Kate's surgery could be a long term issue or something newer.
"Two weeks in hospital is longer than we would normally expect, but she doesn't have a normal life," Dr Zoe Williams told The Sun.
"She's the future queen so the doctors will be erring on the side of caution."
The paper even has an online form where readers can send wishes to Kate.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mail went with the dramatic headline "Let's pray that they're both OK" strapped with "Royal Health Bombshell".

It said that the pair were both having "serious medical treatment."
Columnist Richard Kay called the update on Kate "profoundly shocking," and said the double update "leaves the nation reeling".
"After the sadness of the late Queen's slow decline and death, the bulletin about Catherine has sent a collective shiver down the spine of royal fans. People are reeling," Kay said.

"Barely had the announcement sunk in than it was disclosed that the King was also due to be admitted to hospital for treatment for an enlarged prostate.
"Never before has there been a double dose of royal medical bulletins to remind us about the frailty of the human condition."
Meanwhile, Prince William has cancelled his engagements as his wife is in hospital, perhaps indication the surgery was not planned very far in advance.
A possible trip to Rome is now off, the papers say.
The Princess is also set to miss The Bafta Awards, St Patrick's Day and Commonwealth Service.
The Mirror went in on this angle, saying "I'l be there for Kate" on it's front page.

It said the Prince has cancelled all engagements to look after his wife, saying a source said "his role is to be there for her."
The future King will also be taking care of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Princes Louis while she's recovering.
The broadsheets also printed the news on their front pages.
"Hospital treatments for Princess and King," The Times said.
The Princess of Wales was last seen in public on Christmas Day when she attended the traditional church service with the family at Sandringham, Norfolk.
She is one of the most popular members of the Royal family, alongside her husband the future king.
The King was also seen at Sandringham over Christmas, plus was seen heading alone to church on January 7.

What the Palace said

On the Princess of Wales, a statement from Kensington Palace said: "Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.
"The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery.
"Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.
"The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.
"Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness's progress when there is significant new information to share.

"The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements.
"She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible."
A statement from Buckingham Palace on King Charles said: "In common with thousands of men each year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.

"His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.
"The King's public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation."
