Alternative festival Dark Mofo has been cancelled for 2024, citing escalating costs.
Chris Twite, artistic director of Dark Mofo, made the announcement on Twitter which was followed by an official statement by the festival.
"After 10 years of darkness, and in preparation for 10 more, Dark Mofo is pausing in 2024 for a period of renewal," Dark Mofo said in a statement.
"Since Dark Mofo's inception back in 2013, the festival has felt the weight of shifting conditions and the burden of escalating costs.
"While 2023 left an indelible mark, it also exacted its toll, prompting the decision to pause, reflect and plan out a more sustainable future."
The festival, which runs during winter in Hobart, involves large public art displays, food, music and "centuries-old rituals to explore the links between ancient and contemporary mythology," according to the Dark Mofo website.
Two infamous festival rituals, Winter Feast and the Nude Solstice Swim, will go ahead to "guide" festival-goers "through the darkness".
Participants strip down to nothing and take a plunge into cold Tasmanian waters as part of the Nude Swim, marking the end of the longest night of the year.

In 2022, the festival included indie and heavy metal acts, including Ethel Cain, Black Flag and Deafheaven.
Dark Mofo expects to return in 2025.
