'That hit hard' | Meet Australia's Superhero Streamers raising money for cancer

Aussie gamers are adding to an impressive $1.2 million tally raised in the name of cancer research.
Since April 1, 'Superhero Streamers' have been broadcasting to the world on YouTube and Twitch, advertising and accepting donations on behalf of Game On Cancer.
South Australia's 'Nicktacula' (real name Nick) is leading one of this year's teams.

"Cancer has touched my life in many different ways which is why I wanted to get involved," explained the 27-year-old.
"Thankfully one of my friends and a family member beat it."
"Another one of my close friends, unfortunately, she wasn't as lucky. And that really hit hard."
"She was an absolute ray of sunshine through our community and it helped people understand why this is so important."
"We don't want to lose any more beautiful bright sparks."
Nick has been raising funds since 2021, playing a collection of games including Rocket League, Helldivers 2 and Call of Duty.
After raising $5000 solo last year, Nick is gunning for his team to hit $20,000 in 2024.
"We have an amazing gaming community in Australia and New Zealand and more and more people are jumping on every year - not just with Game on Cancer - but other charities too."
"While we haven't quite achieved a cure yet, all of these are important steps to finding something that will actually work."
Money collected from this year's event - which runs throughout April and May - will be donated to the work of Dr Kevin Fenix at the University of Adelaide where they're developing new treatments and prognostics for bowel, head and neck cancers.
The two month event is aiming to raising $200,000 over April and May. (Supplied)
Stephanie Bendixen, a TV host better known online as hexsteph, has signed up as an ambassador.
"I don't think anybody would have thought videogames would be a key to raising funding for cancer research but it's been this very positive, wonderful way to motivate people to invest their time and energy and money into a cause that's really going to help a lot of people."
"The survival rate across all cancers has gone from 52 per cent to 70 per cent in the last 30 years and that's because of this groundbreaking research."
"The key to that is how Game On Cancer facilitates really fun events for gamers to rally around."
"It's super inspiring to see."
Gamers who are interested in joining Superhero Streamers to start fundraising can get involved by:
  1. Signing up to fundraise on Tiltify between April 1st and May 31st

  2. Joining a fundraising team or flying solo

  3. Going live and have fun while they fundraise

Streamers will be eligible to unlock amazing prizes when they reach different fundraising milestones thanks to industry sponsors.
