Boy, 16, charged after fatal Australia Day boat crash in Sydney's south

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after a fatal Australia Day boat crash in southern Sydney.
The boy was steering an Anglapro runabout at Swallow Rock on the Hacking River in the Sutherland Shire when it collided with another small tinnie, a Quintrex Dart runabout about 10.15am on January 26.
The impact of the collision threw a 16-year-old from the second boat into the water.
The teenager was pulled from the water but suffered critical injuries. They were taken by ambulance to St George Hospital, where they later died.
The teen had been wearing a lifejacket at the time of the crash.
Following the crash, the two 16-year-old operators of the boats were also taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.
Local police established Strike Force Turnbridge to investigate.
After lengthy inquiries, the 16-year-old driver of the Anglapro runabout has now been charged with operating a recreational vessel negligently, causing death.
He is due to appear in a children's court on June 20.
