Emergency services were called to Sander Street in Glenorchy shortly before 7am today following reports that the home was "fully alight".
Police said the body of a person had been located inside the property.
"Fire investigators and detectives remain at the property conducting a detailed examination, and a crime scene has been declared," police said.
An investigation into the circumstance surrounding the fire is underway.
