NAIDOC Week events you can take part in this weekend
NAIDOC WEEK 2024
NAIDOC week, the yearly celebration of the rich and diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians,
This year's event is themed "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud."
The theme was chosen to honour the strength and vitality of First Nations cultures, with hundreds of events promoting and supporting local Aboriginal communities.
The week kicked off with the national NAIDOC awards ceremony, which honoured the contribution of outstanding role models, leaders and change makers.
Aunty Muriel Bamblett was named Person of the Year, for her lifelong commitment to building services and reform for Aboriginal children and young people in need.
Aunty Dulcie Flower, a health advocate and community leader was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Professional kick-boxer and mental health advocate Dante Rodrigues won the youth award.
Since the start of the month, hundreds of NAIDOC week events have been celebrated including community marches, classes and NAIDOC Week balls.

With plenty of other activities still to come, here's what's going on in your state this weekend:

New South Wales

A range of NAIDOC week events will take place across New South Wales
Dubbo's NAIDOC Ball will take place on Friday evening, while Mogo, The Blue Mountains, and Port Macquarie will have celebrations and events on Saturday,
In Sydney, events will be held in Bankstown, Rouse Hill, Castle Hill, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and Centennial Park.

Victoria

NAIDOC Week events will be held in Melbourne's Federation Square, Swan Hill, and at the NGV across the weekend. Artist talks and community events will also be held in Flinders and St Kilda. 

Queensland

NAIDOC GOLF day at the Chinchilla Golf Course, alongside a range of events and workshops at the Queensland Art Gallery and Museum of Brisbane.
Classes and events will also take place in Moorooka (Brisbane), with a NAIDOC Festival planned for Sunday at Birtinya, Rosemount. 

South Australia

NAIDOC week will be celebrated in South Australia this weekend with live music from First Nations composer, singer and Barkindji Woman, Nancy Bates in Prospect, and the Yaktunga Indigenous Film Festival in Mt Barker on Sunday.

Western Australia

Film Screenings, story telling sessions and other NAIDOC week celebrations are planned across Western Australia this weekend. 

Northern Territory

On Friday and Saturday NAIDOC week events are planned including the Arrertnte Storytelling and Elders Morning Tea, and a NAIDOC Splash Party and the Alice Sprince Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
In Katherine, the NAIDOC Ball 2024 is also planned for Friday night.

Australian Capital Territory

NAIDOC Week events are planned in Belconnen, the National Gallery, and at the National Film and Sound Archive.

Tasmania

NAIDOC Street Marches and the NAIDOC Week Ball are on the schedule for Friday afternoon and evening.
