Ten people escape blaze in two-storey Sydney home overnight

Ten people have managed to flee a fire after recently installed alarms alerted the family to the flames which engulfed a two-storey home in Sydney's south-west overnight.
Emergency services were called to an address in Macquarie Fields just after 2am.
It's believed a small fire in a living room quickly spread, taking hold of a two-storey house.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said the blaze also "singed or scorched" a granny flat, but a crew of 12 firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading.
Fire crews returned to the home at 6.30am today when the house re-ignited in the roof.
The spokesperson said 80 to 90 per cent of the house's ground floor was damaged, along with 20 to 30 per cent of the upper floor.
A total of five adults, two young children, and three teenagers, were able to escape the fire.
Six evacuated from the house, while another four family members fled from a granny flat on the property.
"We've lost everything, absolutely everything but we've still got the kids," the homeowner said.
They were alerted to the danger by smoke alarms that had been installed by Fire and Rescue NSW last week during a safety visit.
Firefighters said the smoke alarms "definitely" saved the family's lives.

Fire and Rescue NSW Commander Greg Wright said the blaze was a good reminder to test out your home's fire alarm system.
"Winter is just days away and we're reminding the public to test its smoke alarms to ensure they're in good working order and ready to save lives," Wright said.
"You can visit the FRNSW website and book a home fire safety visit.
"Firefighters can inspect your home, provide advice and install smoke alarms, free of charge, if necessary."
Safety visits are available for any NSW residents and firefighters will install working smoke alarms free of charge if needed.
More information can be found at Fire and Rescue NSW's website.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
