Alleged robbery attempt derailed after good Samaritan steps in, armed with chip display

A man has been charged after an alleged robbery attempt was caught on CCTV.
The footage shows a man entering a bottle shop in Mitchell, Canberra, at 5.05pm on February 16, before allegedly threatening a cashier with a knife, demanding money.
The cashier tried to flee from the man, tripping over and injuring herself on her way out of the shop, police said.

A man allegedly treid to steal the cash register of a bottle shop in the Australian Capital Territory. (Nine)
A nearby shopkeeper "attended the bottle shop and engaged" with the alleged robber soon after, police said.
He can be seen trying to fight the alleged robber off with a nearby chip display rack, in the CCTV footage provided by ACT Police.
The alleged robber eventually drops the items he had allegedly stolen before fleeing the scene.

The accused has been charged with several offences, including aggravated robbery with an offensive weapon, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon with intent.
He appeared in ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
