Human remains found in Blue Mountains identified as those of missing backpacker Kellie Ann Carmichael

Human remains found in the Blue Mountains have been identified as those of a backpacker who disappeared 23 years ago.
Kelli Ann Carmichael, a 24-year-old woman from Geelong, was last seen by staff at a hostel in Katoomba, west of Sydney, in April 2001.
During an unrelated police operation on April 30 this year, police found human remains in bushland near Katoomba.

Following inquiries, police returned to the same location on May 27, and found further remains.
They have now been formally identified as Carmichael's.
Her family has been notified.
An investigation by the NSW Police Unsolved Homicide Team is underway and a brief of evident will be prepared for the coroner.
