Boy, 12, dies after being struck by car near a high school in Tasmania

A 12-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car near a high school in Hobart's north.
Emergency services were called to Main Road near Cosgrove High School in Glenorchy shortly after 3pm yesterday.
Police said despite the efforts of paramedics the boy died at the scene.
"Our thoughts are with the boy's family and loved ones at this difficult time," police said.
Forensics and crash investigators were sent to the scene and an investigation is under way.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital for mandatory testing.
The incident shutdown Main Road Glenorchy between Elwick Road and Lampton Avenue for several hours.
The roads have since reopened.
