Well, the benefits of exposure to sunshine are not a new subject to discuss. However, did you know that it could even enhance your libido? Medical University of Graz, Austria, conducted a research and has proved that sunshine in the form of Vitamin D is a great libido enhancer. Very little amount of vitamin D, is absorbed by the body from the food. However, most of it is produced while you are exposed to sunlight. Keep reading to know more about how the Vitamin D absorbed from sunshine increases the testosterone levels of your body and simultaneously boosts your sexual drive.
How sunshine and Vitamin D works together to boosts your libido?
Our body is naturally designed to absorb vitamin D from sunlight, which is an essential nutrient that our body needs. Actually, Vitamin D converts into a hormone named calcitriol, which is known as active Vitamin D. There are two types of Vitamin D and they are:
- Vitamin D2 or ergocalciferol (found in plants)
- Vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol (found in animals)
Both the said Vitamin D is created in our body when our skin is exposed to the ultraviolet rays of sunlight. These rays convert the substance named 7-dehydrocholesterol into vitamin D. However, even when this substance is converted into Vitamin D it remains inactive and the process of enhancing the levels of libido boosting testosterones in the body involves a few more steps. Let us discuss the entire process step by step.
- When the skin is exposed to sunlight, sun's ultraviolet rays come into contact with the skin.
- The substance named 7-dehydrocholesterol is converted into Vitamin D.
- Vitamin D is absorbed in blood stream and is passed to the liver and there it turns into the prohormone 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (calcidiol).
- Calcidiol then passes to kidneys and is converted into 1, 25-dihydroxycholecalciferol or active vitamin D.
- This active vitamin D is then again released into blood stream and helps in increasing the testosterone levels in the body.
How is sunshine, Vitamin D and your libido connected?
Medical University of Graz, Austria, found that whenever men had minimum 30 nanograms of Vitamin D in 1 millilitre of blood, they had more libido boosting testosterone. Also, they discovered that testosterone levels in men fluctuate significantly with the change in season.
During their study, they observed that testosterone levels in their subject starts decreasing in October, that is the beginning of winter and by March, the levels are lowest. This study again supports their previous research, which says that one hour of sun exposure boosts the testosterone levels in men by nearly 69 percent.
Everyone knows the effect of testosterone levels on the libido. To increase testosterone levels, all you have to do is expose your body to sunrays. Also, if you are finding yourself or your partner facing low libido issues, you can plan a beach picnic to get a good amount of Vitamin D and have a wonderful evening indulging in physical pleasures ahead.
